Welcome to Green Training. We are the carpentry training people you come to when you are looking to learn new specific carpentry skills. Skills to be proud of, skills to move you up in the world and skills to potentially earn you more money.
Some people come to learn something that will give them an opportunity to earn extra money in their spare time and some might come to us for a career change. Either way the advantages gained from this training will help better your chances of creating something to be proud of, to stand back and be able to say “I did that” is a rewarding feeling that not many people get to do. To make friends and family proud you have done something on your own, done it well and it looks like a work of art.
At Green Training we specialise in getting people trained in specific areas of carpentry and joinery with intense, short and to the point training. Today’s education system is built to teach general knowledge rather than specific knowledge, so you would normally have to do the full carpentry course which could take a year per level. Right now, people want to learn specific skills through intense training.
Carpentry and joinery requires one of the largest depths of knowledge across so many sub trades within the trade. When you break them down in to simple steps it becomes a lot easier to absorb the knowledge and keep it fresh through the practice of practical work. Most of our training is done in person at our training facility where we have the equipment and materials for you to use in your practical training.
Where It All Started -
Green Training is a family run business that started with Wayne Lees, Carpenter and Joiner.
He started out with a joinery apprenticeship at British Waterways where he learn how to create lock gates for the British canals and rivers using traditional joinery methods. He stayed there for 8 years as a joiner doing extra work on evenings and weekends on friends and families houses.
At one point he was so busy with extra work he decided to go fully self employed creating "WAL Carpentry" as the work was rolling in thick and fast. From there he went onto barn conversions doing everything from studwork to stairs.
Absorbing as much information as possible during those years meant within those years of being self employed he had a wealth of knowledge.
This led him to the thought of teaching the next generation the trade.
He had spent around 6 years in total at college learning carpentry then joinery during his apprenticeship so he knew it takes years and years to learn the trade. So he decided to create bite sized courses and personally train people in specific areas of carpentry and joinery.
There are so many carpentry tasks to learn during college years that each subject within the carpentry umbrella is shallowly practiced. Some different areas of carpentry and joinery are:
Shuttering carpentry
Roofing
Studwork
Stairs
Door frames
Door fitting
Skirting and architrave
Kitchen fitting
Joinery repairing and heritage work
Some carpenters choose one of these subjects and specialise in that for the rest of their careers. So as you can tell there is a deep wealth of knowledge that a carpenter can learn. That is partly the reason people want to learn a specific skill to master. Who wants to spend a full year in college at £5000 or more to learn 5 of the subjects lightly when they only wanted to learn 1.
Green Training was created to save time and deep dive into specific subjects like a carpentry personal trainer in the safety of a professional workshop.
